ALL ABOUT SUN PROTECTION!!

ALL ABOUT SUN PROTECTION!!

Lets see how you can protect your skin:

There are two types of radiation: The UVB are burning rays, you burn and withdraw. UVA is the real culprit and changes the DNA of your cells, causing aging, wrinkles and skin cancer.

The intensity of solar radiation is also important. Solar radiation is most intense in the middle part of the day between 11-3 PM. Another important factor is the reflection of UV radiation. Are you in the sun, by the ocean, or indoors?

Do you know that the UVA passes 100% through your tinted car windows?

So how does sunscreen work?

Chemical sunscreens are usually chemicals which convert UVB to heat. Physical sunblocks contain Zinc oxide and Titanium dioxide and make a thicker layer on the skin. This is definitely recommended for people doing outdoor activities.

What is SPF?

SPF is a sun protection factor against UVB. If you normally burn in the sun in 10 minutes and you have an SPF of 15, this means that your skin will take 15x longer to burn, giving you a total of 150 minutes. So everyone, make sure to reapply the sunscreen every 2.5 hrs. The American Dermatology association recommends at least SPF 30 for daily use.
