What is Laser Vein Treatment?

During your treatment, light energy is delivered through a special laser hand-piece to the targeted vein, in a series of brief pulses. The light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, but not the surrounding tissue. This heat absorption causes a coagulation of the blood vessel, which is subsequently absorbed by your body.

These simple treatments effectively treat both spider veins and varicose veins. Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are those small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face and thighs. Varicose veins are usually larger than 1/4 inch in diameter and may appear raised with a bluish color. They may also be related to more serious vein disorders and require a careful evaluation by your doctor prior to treatment.

How do Lasers Work?

Lasers are now used for many medical treatments: eye surgery, heart problems, joint procedures-and much more. Lasers are built with a particular energy source inside the big black box! The wavelength created by the energy source selectively interacts with only very particular molecules in the tissue.

As important is that this single wavelength or high powered laser beam does NOT interact with all the other molecules in the tissue it is aimed at. That is why lasers are such an amazing discovery for medicine; laser light of the doctors choosing can be used to treat one tiny little target and not affect the surrounding tissue.

This feature makes the treatment more effective, with less downtime, and less healing time, and less of a chance of leaving injury to the surrounding tissue which could cause a scar or mark. For these reasons, lasers are the treatment of choice for certain cosmetic skin treatments.

Vascular Laser Removes Blood Vessels

The target for the vascular laser is the blood vessel-more specifically the red blood cell in the blood vessel. The laser light shines through the skin, and just heats up the blood vessel and causes it to fade away over a few weeks.
